About
Thanks for joining Muse of Fire!
I’m Sara Torres, a content strategist in public interest technology and a scholarly editor.
I created Muse of Fire as a space to think about books and the worlds they create. I draw on my years as a medieval literature professor to reflect on how we read, and how literary texts shape our thinking and impact our lives—whether they console, challenge, or inspire us.
You’re in the right place if you love thinking about the written word, if you enjoy writing and editing, and if you believe that literature connects us not only to past eras but also to each other. Muse of Fire publishes twice a month, on topics ranging from friendship to food history, and from literary tourism to feminist classics.
There’s lots here also about community, travel, and environmental humanities—and about my professional journey from higher education to civic tech. (Read more about my research and editorial work.)
