Thanks, Clare! I find that I’m returning to her work often as I try to build more of a regular creative practice—her writing so expansive while also being grounded in sharp, lyrical observations. Alas, the soda bread was a bit tough, and I’m going to go in search of alternative recipes…
Oh I'm sorry it was tough! That's often due to over-working the dough? Or it could be the ratio of bread soda to other ingredients. I wish I had a recipe to share.. I make it the way my mother did, measuring my eye and 'sensing' my way through it. I've always wanted to write it up, and this my be the nudge to do that this year!
I would love to read your post on soda bread! I've learned to cook mainly through friends and recipes, so it's a slow and tentative journey in the kitchen for me :)
Love that Mary Oliver poem - what a gift her work continues to be. Hope you enjoyed the soda bread too! :)

Thanks for the nudge Sara! I’m excited to write about this (& to eat all the soda bread I’ll get to make for “research”) ☺️
Ping me when you publish it so I don't miss it! Happy writing :)
I will! Thanks again for the nudge :)
